Ship stability is an area of naval architecture, ship design and ship operation that deals with how a ship behaves at sea, both in still water and in waves, whether intact or damaged. Stability calculations focus on the centre of gravity, centre of buoyancy, and metacentre of vessels and on how these interact during the operation of the ship.

The course is focused on the basics of stability principles as applicable to ship operations.
